What We Support

Centrum

Scan Design Foundation funds Centrum to support the travel, teaching, and preforming costs for a Scandinavian trio called Fru Skagerrak to participate in Centrum’s Fiddle Tunes Festivals. The partnership to support the festival began in July 2019.

The goals of the Fiddle Tunes Festival include improving musicians’ skills, discovering cultures through music, learning music in a cultural context, and building lifelong relationships in the fiddle music community.

The Fiddle Tunes Festival began in 1977 in Port Townsend and is a week-long affair featuring music workshops and performances. Annual attendance averages 16,000 people from three quarters of Washington counties, 46 states in the USA, and many foreign countries. The festival has a tradition of bringing Danish musicians to the festival. The program director attended the 3-day Tønder Festival in Denmark in 2017. The Festival is renowned for its celebration of fiddle traditions from different regions of the world. Fru Skagerrak travels around Scandinavia with three master musicians, one from each Scandinavian country: Maja Kjær Jacobsen from Denmark, Elise Wessel Hildrum from Norway, and Anna Lindblad from Sweden.
