Who We Are
Honoring the legacy of Inger & Jens Bruun, our mission is to advance Danish American relations by supporting cultural exchanges focused on environmental sustainability
We envision a future enriched by the exchange between the US & Denmark of people, ideas and cultural experiences
An attitude of open-mindedness and interest in new ideas infiltrates our work
We are continuously exploring new ways to drive innovative programs and catalytic partnerships
The truest measure of our success is the positive change we help create
We believe our best outcomes are achieved by involving a broad array of perspectives
Hygge or ‘togetherness’ is a concept that permeates everyday life for the Danes. It functions as kind of informal social support network which, in turn, seems to contribute to the high levels of happiness observed in Denmark.
The Scan Design Foundation holds dear the concept of hygge in our collaborations with established partners. Like the bonds of trust within a family, we seek to extend the concept of togetherness to the larger community through our partnerships.
SDF partner CoUrban Design Collective hosted a five-day masterclass and design charette for the city of Bellingham. The The outcome of the program was 14 Design Principles to promote urban liveability and placemaking strategies for the new Bellingham Waterfront District development.
