What We Support
Pacific Northwest Ballet
Pacific Northwest Ballet School (PNBS) was founded in 1974 and has achieved national recognition as one of the leading dance institutions in the country. Beginning in 2007, Scan Design Foundation partnered with Northwest Danish Foundation (now Northwest Danish Association) to establish the Flemming Halby Dance Student Exchange Program in honor of Flemming Halby, retired school principal. Mr. Halby, a Dane, had a long career with the Royal Danish Ballet before joining the Pacific Northwest Ballet in the 1970's.
Two students from the Royal Danish Ballet School (RDBS) attend PNBS's five-week Summer Course in July. In addition to taking courses with the Company, members of Northwest Danish Association introduce the students to various aspects of the Pacific Northwest region.
Two PNB Professional Division students attend the Royal Danish Ballet School's seven-week summer course in August and September. In addition to taking classes with the Company, attending Company performances, and learning the Bournonville style of dance, PNB's students are able to explore and experience Denmark during their stay with the assistance of a Copenhagen based Coordinator.
I was, and am, immensely grateful to have been chosen for such a unique opportunity: three weeks in Copenhagen, studying with the Royal Danish Ballet and its school. At first, I was unsure of what to expect. I had little knowledge of the Royal Danish Ballet. At least, I could expect to learn something new—to benefit from a new perspective.

I had an amazing time at PNB and Seattle. It’s definitely one of the best summer programs I have attended.

What I liked the most about the program was probably how nice and friendly the staff and the other dancers all were. It was a very nice and welcoming environment to be in.
