Folio and Scan Design Foundation built a partnership in 2021, joining forces over the idea of starting a Human Library in Seattle. The Human Library was a concept originally developed in Denmark that gained enough momentum to spread worldwide.
Seattle's First Human Library: October 7-8th 2022
The first Human Library in Seattle will be held on October 7-8th, 2022 at Folio near Pike Place Market.
Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum is located at 93 Pike St #307, Seattle, WA 98101, USA
The Human Library is a movement that aims to challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. First started in 2000 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Human Library grew into a global movement.
In the Human Library, a 'Book' is a human volunteer on loan to have a personal conversation with you, the 'Reader'. Books are people who defy stereotypes and can answer questions to help challenge assumptions about a given subject based on their personal experiences.
Hosted at Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum, this two-day event will feature a collection of local Books. Readers will have the chance to check out one of our 'Books' from a selection of titles to learn about the Book's individual experiences and engage in conversation.
