What We Support
I-SUSTAIN - Sustainable Development Study Tours of Denmark
Environmental SustainabilityI-SUSTAIN Sustainable Development Delegations to Denmark facilitates sustainable solutions in energy, waste, transportation, buildings, affordable housing, rural and economic development and more by collaborating with subject matter experts, businesses, local and state governments, NGOs and academic institutions. The firm's work is grounded in over 17 years of research in global best practices and long standing professional relationships. Through its relationship with the Scan Design Foundation, public sector elected officials and executive department staff have been able to participate in these delegations at no cost to taxpayers. NGO and corporate leaders also participate in the delegations, resulting in positive changes in areas such as bicycle infrastructure, public space design, green infrastructure, public transit and more. The relationships that develop during the delegations between Republicans and Democrats, real estate developers, architects, utility executives, non-profits and others facilitate better working relationships for years which translates into new and better ways of doing things.
In addition to supporting delegations, the Scan Design Foundation has been a supporter of a variety of i-SUSTAIN programs in the Pacific Northwest that extend what is learned in Denmark to a broader audience at home. These activities have included bringing in Danish experts to speak at public events, participate in workshops and webinars, and meet with their peers here. Read our blog by guest bloggers, Patricia Chase from i-SUSTAIN, and Ted Sturdevant from the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure, about lessons in sustainable practices brought from Denmark to the Pacific Northwest.
For over 15 years I-SUSTAIN has researched, visited and documented Global Best Practices in Sustainable Development. It has led dozens of study missions to 15 countries introducing decision makers from the Pacific Northwest to best practices, and to experts responsible for their implementation.
Beginning in 2005, the Scan Design Foundation has sponsored trip scholarships for public employees to join the study tours to Denmark.
