14 University of Washington students are traveling to Greenland during summer 2023 to participate in the Scan Design Foundation sponsored program, "Impacts and Responses to Changes in Arctic Ice and Climate", to explore how changes in ice impacts the Arctic environment and the people living in the Arctic. A group of nine transportation students traveled to Denmark and Sweden during the summer of 2022 to participate in the Portland State University (PSU) Sustainable Transportation Study Abroad Program partially funded by Scan Design Foundation. Through the program, the students met with planners and engineers and experienced the transportation systems in Copenhagen and Stockholm.

Scan Design Foundation began a long and rewarding partnership with the University of Washington in 2004. Together we have created and funded a variety of programs for students to learn about and travel to Denmark and for Danes to learn about and travel to the U.S. This year, recognizing $10 Million in grants over the years, the UW awarded Presidential Laureate status to the Foundation.

With the support of Scan Design Foundation, hundreds of elected officials, city planners and bicycle planners from the Pacific Northwest have been able to experience world class bicycle infrastructure for themselves on i-SUSTAIN study tours to Denmark. Joined with local business leaders and NGO executive directors, this has led to continually improving bicycle structure in the PNW region.
