Interns: Master of Architecture Exchange Program

Congratulations to our new 2022 Master of Architecture Interns! The six-month internship is a highly sought-after opportunity offering students in the University of Washington Master of Architecture program the chance to gain valuable professional experience by working in the offices of exemplary Copenhagen-based architecture firms. A monthly stipend is provided from the Scan Design Foundation to help with travel, accommodation, and living expenses. 2022 Interns

Emily Crichlow - COBE ARCHITECTS

Emily is a Masters of Architecture candidate at the University of Washington. She holds a Bachelors of Arts from Colgate University in Geography and a minor in Architecture studies. In the fall of 2021, Emily travelled around Scandinavia as a part of a Valle Scholarship program at UW focusing on industrial site preservation and re-use. She has previously worked as an intern with Graham Baba Architects and as a Designer for Tibeb. Space in Seattle, WA. Emily will be working at the Danish firm COBE starting in February 2022. She is excited for the opportunity to live in Copenhagen and discover COBE's approach to designing successful public space and sustainable methods for transforming existing buildings.

Halina Murphy - DORTE MANDRUP ARKITEKTER

Halina is a Masters of Architecture candidate at the University of Washington who will intern with Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter A/S starting in February 2022. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Architecture degree from the University of Washington. In 2017, she began working at SMR Architects on multi-family affordable housing projects in the greater Seattle area. Since returning to UW for graduate school, she has participated in the Design/Build studio and 2020 Scan|Design Masters studio with Dan Stubegaard of COBE Architects. In fall of 2021, she researched Swedish post-war Modernist housing under the Valle Scholarship. She is looking forward to extending her stay in Scandinavia, familiarizing herself with Copenhagen, and beginning her internship.

Lucas Helander - EFFEKT

Lucas is a Masters of Architecture candidate at the University of Washington and will begin his internship with EFFEKT starting in February 2022. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Clemson University, from where he graduated in 2019. While at the University of Washington, he is pursuing a certificate in Digital Design Computing and an emphasis in Materials and Fabrication. Lucas has also participated in the Scan Design Foundation Furniture studio and the Scan Design Foundation Landscape and Urban Planning studio while at UW.

Fueled by an interest in innovative materials, emerging technology, and an appreciation for craft, Lucas is excited to begin his internship at EFFEKT and gain a deeper understanding of the drivers and approaches in Danish design.

2021 Interns

Bryce Boho - COBE Architects

Bryce is a Master of Architecture candidate at the University of Washington. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design where he studied Interior Design, Architecture, and Furniture design in an interdisciplinary program with a minor in Art History. Bryce participated in the 2020 online Scan Design Studio with Dan Stubbergaard from COBE Architects, where he is now an Intern. For many years Bryce has been fascinated with danish design culture and enjoyed exploring the region and its culture through the immersion of an internship.

Jendy Edgerton - Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter

2021 Jendy Edgerton

Jendy is a Master of Architecture candidate at the University of Washington. She holds a BA from Western Washington University in Urban Planning and Sustainable Development with minors in Sustainable Design and Environmental Policy. During her time at UW, Jendy participated in the semester-long exchange at Meiji University in Tokyo. Abroad and at UW, she has pursued courses with a focus on fabrication and site-responsive design. She has previously worked as an intern with BCJ in Seattle.

As this is her first time in Scandinavia, Jendy enjoyed experiencing Copenhagen and the surrounding region with fresh eyes, learning about and exploring Scandinavian design strategies during her time at Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter.
