University of Copenhagen - Tips and Hints

Exceptional Evaluations from past students

Before You Go

  • Let your bank know you will be in Denmark
  • Arrange to have someone meet you at the airport
  • Buy your plane ticket early. Student Universe has cheap tickets
  • Investigate alternative housing such as local hostels which can be much less expensive than University housing

What to Bring

  • Rain jacket. This is a KEY piece of clothing.
  • Vitamin D
  • Over-the-counter medications, cold remedies, etc. There is nothing equivalent to a drug store in Denmark.
  • American foods you can't live without: example: Peanut butter

Arrival

  • Facebook. Check out pages for your apartment, buying bikes, exchange students. A great way to make some initial contacts with Danes which will likely lead to a wide range of people and resources.

Pre-semester Courses

  • TAKE THEM! They are a fabulous way to meet other exchange students, Danes, and learn about the culture as well as learn some Danish. Being able to understand just a little of the language will help reduce any feelings of isolation and make you feel more like a local.
    • Join sports groups
    • Meet other international students and make new friends.
  • $1,000 stipend available for students attending these classes.

Student Housing

  • If you are interested in meeting other international students, look for the big apartment dorms through the University--Everyone gets their own room, has roommates, and lots of neighbors.
  • It is possible to find affordable housing in the city center and surrounding neighborhoods.
  • Browse the Housing Foundation website and housing accommodations webpages
  • Facebook Group: Kobenhavn lejligheder lejeboliger til unge og studerende, gratis og sikkert.

    - Post a picture of yourself, ask about housing and say a little about what type of person you are.
